Glens Falls settles lawsuit filed by former assessor

Just prior to a scheduled damages hearing, on June 23, 2020, the City of Glens Falls Common Council voted unanimously to approve a six-figure settlement effectively ending a nearly four year lawsuit filed by the city’s former assessor over her termination.

In February 2020 Judgment was entered in favor of the City’s former assessor finding that the disciplinary process deprived Stack of an “independent, unbiased adjudicator” and that the city could not have taken into account a 1990s criminal conviction in its decision to fire Stack.

“Sarah Burger, a lawyer representing Stack, said the city clearly violated her client’s rights, but said the settlement is the best outcome for both parties.

“I think this is the best outcome,” she said. “It’s in both parties best interest that this case is resolved.””
